How Safe is Traveling for Work?

The start of this pandemic saw a rapid decrease in business travel, but now that tighter safety measures have been implemented by airlines, consultants and others are starting to take off once again. Yet, with COVID-19 cases rising, this begs the question - how safe and necessary is business travel right now? Below are some helpful resources to decide if and how to travel during this pandemic.

First, consider if business travel is necessary. Many Americans are finding innovative ways to continue their work from the safety of their homes. The CDC recommends avoiding unnecessary travel, as that can increase the spread of COVID-19. If travel is deemed essential for work, they offer some guidelines and travel methods to consider when planning the trip, such as getting tested prior to travel, choosing less risky travel methods, and appropriately navigating areas with travel restrictions. Security Magazine also offers a step-by-step list for businesses, which guides them through the appropriate precautions to take when requiring employees to travel, as well as what to do once they return to the office.

Ultimately, any travel, business or leisure,  is not recommended, but, if necessary, there are actions your company can take to mitigate risk and reduce the spread.
